What is Heritage?

In Milton Keynes, heritage is not just the richness of what has been left behind from other generations and settlements on sites in our borough. It also includes the heritage we each bring with us from our diverse backgrounds, and the things we wish to preserve and pass on to future generations.

Archive documents and museum objects and their interpretation are vital to the understanding of any area and its people. They form the time capsules that give us reference points from the past as we move into the future. They help us trace our roots and define ourselves and our places.

As part of the ongoing review of heritage in Milton Keynes, Culture MK commissioned ABL Cultural Consulting to undertake a collections audit to review the status and current use of all of its major public and private heritage, art and public art collections and determine how to best protect and use them in the future as part of the wider Heritage Strategy.
